Hi. Please help. I wonder if we could use the definite article before the word like "mirror" in similes like numbers 1 and 3 below. Or should it be like numbers 2 and 4? I think my topic is related to poetry and that's why I'm posting here in this thread. Any help from you would be appreciated.

Mirrors are not 'self-reflective'; they are simply reflective. That said, these are good:

It is as useful as a mirror.
It is reflective, like a mirror.

There is no reason to use 'the' unless the context has already spoken of a specific mirror. Please try to post in complete sentences so we can better determine your problem.
