Thanks for replying Clive.

Just wondering. Is this commonly said? '...just to be on the safe side of the fence'. What about '...just to be on the right side of the fence.'?

Thanks again

Hi,

I haven't heard either said.

You don't really need to think in tems of 'physical sides' (eg of a fence). Consider other expressions that use 'side',

eg whose side are you on, in this dispute?

eg Always look o the bright side. Be optimistic.

eg He is usually nice, but he has an unpleasant side to his character.
