Silenced or muted

Could you check my paragraph for mistakes? Is the usage of the verb "silence" correct in the sentence or should I use "mute" instead or is there a better verb? Thanks.

She rested her blond head on mine and started whispering something into my ear, but I couldn’t hear what she said because as she whispered, the two noisy crows started chasing one another and her whispering was silenced by their“caw-caw”. When she realized what was going on, she suddenly became angry. She jumped to her feet and started yelling at the crows.
