Sign vs. signpost

Hi everybody

Are there any differences between 'sign' and 'signpost'?
Can signpost refer to boards which contain information such as direction and distance as 'sign' do?

Thanks in advance

A signpost, which typically gives directional information, is a type of sign. There are many other types of signs, including those that have nothing to do with directing traffic.
