Sign

Have I used 'sign' correctly in:
The presence of the comb sign on the female gravestones might be considered a kind of reducing the inviolability of women to the private domains.
?I just want to mention 'comb' that is frequently referred to in the article.

Thanks in advance

I think "symbol" would probably be a better choice than "sign".

You mean comb symbol?
What about the sign of comb?
What about the symbol of comb?

sign has a special meaning in the realm of semiology. Do I use symbol anyway?

If this is for a specific purpose, like a class, in which you have been told to use the word "sign", then follow your teacher's instructions.

For normal conversation, I'm unfamiliar with the concept of a "comb sign", so it seems to me that the word "symbol" would be easier to use for communication.

Once again, you are going to charge your client for work that will be virtually incomprehensible to native speakers. And the work on the comprehensible buts will have been done for you free in this forum.
