Students entering the Department of Classics must have a good command of Greek and Latin. Sight examinations in one ancient language (prose and poetry) must be passed during the first year; in the other, they must be passed no later than May of the second. Any deficiencies must be remedied at once by independent reading and appropriate undergraduate courses in which additional work may be assigned.
