Does "ill" work too? The tense should be in progressive, right?
eg

He's feeling sick.

"Nauseous" doesn't mean feeling sick; it means making others feel sick. The word for feeling sick is "nauseated."

However, I'm the last person in the English-speaking world to make this distinction, just as I'm the last to insist that "disinterested" doesn't mean "uninterested."

Alas.

That's good, because the usage note https://www.ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=nauseous suggests that the word has changed its meaning.

I can find no basis for your conclusion. Not the change in usage; that it's good.
