Sibling



I wonder about the word sibling. According to my dictionary is sibling considered to be a juridical term, but a friend of mine believe it to be a common word. Sort this out for me, please.

It is a common word but not one you use a lot, if you see what I mean! You normally say 'brothers and sisters' but siblings is used a lot on forms, in formal situations and so on.
