Shut in

"Folds of scarlet drapery shut in my view to the right hand"

I would like someone to open this sentence up for me: What is it that is being shut in here? Shouldnt the folds shut "ME" in from the view. It sounds like the folds are shutting the "view".

can i use a sentence where folds of a drapery shut ME in from the light.

Thanks a lot! Would really appreciate your help!

I cover my head with a scarf and let its long edges shut in my cheeks. (from the heat)

Is the meaning clear?

What I mean is that the scarf covers my head, but its sides fall on either side of my face and kind of provide a protection or a shield or an umbrella from the heat.

Another way of saying this could be:

I let the sides of the scarf shut out the heat/sunsh
