Is 'should' still used in this way? If 'should' was deleted from Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, the sentences would still make perfect sense - with the addition of an 's' on the end of 'break' in Number 3. In Numbers 5, 6 and 7, 'should' can be replaced with 'if'.

In if ... should... clauses, the should doesn't really have a meaning as such. It is just an extra word that emphasizes the if. In the inverted structures (Should you need ...) should means if by replacing it.

You might paraphrase it with turns out that or by chance or happen to, but even so, this doesn't add much meaning

a dictionary says:
...used after if and in case, or with subject and verb reversed, to suggest that an event is unlikely to happen
eg: If you should change your mind, do let me know.
