Shtick

I was looking for an appropriate word and found a "shtick" in a dictionary. But as I've never met it in real life I have doubts about the way people actualy use it. Can I use it like this:

There are two people in the picture. They are standing and hugging as old friends just bumped into each other on a street. But the shtick of the picture is that they are standing a meter away from each other.

Is it a too informal word?

My dictionary doesn't list that as a use of "shtick".

If two performers had a routine where they did a contact-with-no-contact act, you could say that it was their shtick, but the way it's used in the original is not natural.

That's the thing with slang - if it's not your native slang, don't use it. If you have to look up slang in the dictionary, don't use it. You have to acquire slang organically or it will rarely sound right.

Thank you for your answers.

I understand that the word "shtick" is inappropriate here...

The picture was not designed particulary for fun. And it doesn't make me laugh either.

It was illustrating an article. There was made some exaggerations to draw attention.

So it's an odd part of the picture desinged to draw reader's attention and reflect a main point of
