shrinkable

0Like a shirt made of cotton, it shrinks if you put it in a dryer to dry, to me it's "shrinkable". It has the tendency to shrink.02br
02br
00But unfortunately "shrinkable" is not a word. Can somebody give me words that convey the same idea? Thank you so much.02br

00The one dictionary I use Cambridge Dictionary Online is handy (I don't have to flip pages) and free (major reason, because I'm cheap-pride) has no place for "shrinkable" in it. Maybe you're right that I should get a better dictionary...........nothing great is free huh?02br

1i00[prone / likely / liable / apt] to shrink02i00 doesn't sound the same as 01i00shrinkable02i00 to me. My impression is that the first happens on its own against your will; the second is good if you actually want something to shrink.02br
01i00Be careful with the water temperature when you wash it; it's prone to shrink.02i0

0 I agree with CJ. I would never describe a cheap cotton shirt as "shrinkable." It sounds more like a word used to describe a craft supply, like Shrinky-**** plastic or wool for felting. For garments, I'd say prone, liable, or likely to shrink. 0-

0My usage would be exactly as CJ and Del describe - shrinkable is a feature you take advantage of, "prone to shrink" is a feature you are wary of.0-

00First, the word "shrinkable" does exist. Second, "shrinkable" has a positive and desirable feel to it, correct? Just one more question though:02br
