SHOWING vs PROVING

Which do you use if both?

1 She's showing herself to be very dependable so far.
2 She's proving herself to be very dependable so far.

and can you say?
1 I'll do my maximum to help him get over it. (Can you say DO MY MAXIMUM?)

I don't use this. I would say

I'll do my best to help ...

Hi,

Both 'prove' and 'show' are OK, but to me 'show' suggests a bit more that her dependableness can be seen in some way.
