How is it most correct?

This custom shows the same (as?) the mentioned story does/shows(?).
This custom shows the same thing (as?) the mentioned story does/shows(?).

I.e. by inserting “as,” or not, and inserting “the thing” or not? And using “does” or “shows”?

I'm not sure that a custom can show things. Maybe it illustrates some principle or attitude? Also, "mentioned story" is a strange combination in English.

You can use "as" or "that".

“Illustrates” isn’t the best word for me, for some reason (you too have said "maybe"), but the point is that “shows” was wrong, so what about the following?
The essence of the Celtic ceremony is the same as that of the Greek myth.
Or should I say, the C. ceremony has the same essence as that of the G. myth?
