Show vs Tell

I need help please. I usually write technical or step-by-step. I am now trying to write a nonfiction article however in a ‘showing’ manner like as in a novel type of book.

Two similar paragraphs below, would you give me your two cents worth please. Thank you!



After reading over one hundred and seventy research documents, congress reports and university papers my head was throbbing and my heart was saddened. I had to give my eyes and heart a rest by walking away from this subject matter for a few days.
