Show how The Red Badge of Courage is an anti war novel.

It is not finished, so just tell me how have I done so far. Thank you in advance.

The Red Badge of Courage, by Stephen Crane, depicts its anti-war side by portraying war as an event in which "All they that take the sword shall perish with the sword," Mathew 26: 52.

The novel shows that feeling fear and being insecure are two ways in which oneself begin to succumb to mental and emotional distress when he is about to go to battle. For example, with Henry, "it had suddenly appeared to him that perhaps in battle he might run… A little panic-fear grew in his mind. As his imagination went forward to a fight, he saw hideous possibilities." (14-15) Also, Henry shows his insecurity when he keeps asking others if they think they might run from battle. He does this because he fears he is the only one undergoing such mental torment. "Think any of the boy's 'll run?" Henry asked Jim. (16) "How do you know you won't run when the time comes?" Henry asked Wilson. (22)

Aside from feeling fear and being insecure, being nervous also plays a part in the act of perishing. As those feelings began to control Henry, “he sprang from the bunk and began to pace nervously to and fro.”(15) Also,”his neck was quivering with nervous weakness and the muscles of his arms felt numb and bloodless.”(44) Like Henry, many of the youth may show such reactions to war when they anticipate a battle and hear a “sudden spatter of firing.”
