Shouting

Hi, could you please tell me which of the following sentences are correct?

He shouted at me for about an hour. or He was shouting at me for about an hour.

He looked at me for ten minutes. or He was looking at me for ten minutes.

Actually, all four of those sentences are perfectly correct! I thought about writing a reply = I thought about writing a reply in the past, but now I have decided not to. I was thinking about writing a reply = I thought about writing a reply in the past, and I still haven't decided if I will or not.

They are almost interchangeable.

I guess the sentences with the Progressive are correct, because you have a Duration, e.g. ...for about an hour, for 10 min.

The simple forms present the situations as events.

The continuous forms present the situations as activities.
