shout vs shout out

Hello,
What in your opinion is the difference between:
"Go away!" he shouted. and "Go away!" he shouted out.

To me, "shout out" implies that you are calling to someone in a loud voice, so that they will pay attention to you.
"Shout" does not have the sense of a directed call.

But if you look at the sample sentences, "shout-out" is commonly being used as a noun.
