Should/would like

Is it true that prescriptivists prefer "should" to "would" in the following types of sentences?

1. I would like to thank you very much for helping me....

2. I would prefer to see your boss instead!

3. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks...

4. We would feel much obliged to receive it at home.

In the old days it was more common than these days to use should instead of would as the conditional auxiliary verb with I and we . This still happens now and then in formal high-register British English but I don't think any serious grammarian considers would incorrect. CB

Probably only the prescriptivists over the age of 80, but yes, there are likely a few who insist on shouldin those cases.
