Shouldn't talk - Shouldn't be talking

Phone conversation -

Nat - Ted? Ted, are you there?

Ted - I'm here. Sorry. I just thought I heard something.

Nat - Maybe we shouldn't talk. / Maybe we shouldn't be talking.

(Ted is sneaking around somewhere he shouldn't be. Nat is concerned that someone might hear Ted talking and that will get him caught)

I'd say so. Yes. But the first has fewer words to say, so it's better because they should talk as little as possible in that situation.
