Should this be As or After?

As/After Khellendros raged about what he was owed by Takhisis and how she promised the world to him, Mina responded by reprimanding him for his foolishness in giving his loyalty to someone other than the One God.

People respond to some previous remark or action, but 'as' means at the same time, so in my opinion that doesn't go with 'responded'. It should be 'after'. CJ
