Should there be parallel sentences before and after comma?

The more you read, the more you will like this book.

It could be better. "Read" sort of just hangs there. "The more you read it, the more you will like this book." Even better, "The more you read this book, the more you will like it."

But I think, it should be, "The more you read this book, the more you like it."

That is good English, but it means something a little different. This "you" is the impersonal one (The more one reads this book, the more one likes it.). The other is more like a person-to-person tip.
