Should their be a comma here?

I read this in a book and I was wondering if there should be a comma around already? It just sounds better to me for some reason. Or should it be "already possessing"?

"Instead we show up possessing already a highly refined and individuated soul"

They are optional, and would add a lot of emphasis to the word 'already'.
But usually they would not be used.
