Should period or full stop only follow a sentence?

Should period or full stop only follow a sentence? Can it be used after a phrase? I have been using period after Thank you in my signature. Is it correct?

Hi, 'Thank you' is really a shorter version of the sentence 'I thank you'. Yes, put a period if you are writing it as part of a piece of 'prose', eg a letter or anything that has other sentences. What I mean is eg if you just send someone flowers, it's OK to write simply 'Thank you' on the card without any punctuation.

Hi Jackson

Should period or full stop only follow a sentence?

Why do you use both 'period' and 'full stop'? ('Period' is AmE; 'full stop' is BrE.)

Sorry, Yoong. I thought period is a standard word while full stop is nonstandard.

Best wishes, Jackson
