Should of/ should have

I noticed a lot of my friends say and write "should of" instead of "should have" i.e. I should of told her.
Is it correct to "say should of" or is it acceptable?
It ticks me off so much =)

The only thing worse than 'should of' is 'shoulda'. You should never see them in print. Should have is correct.

Should have is correct. [Should've is the contraction, which sounds like should of.]

you'll also find 'would of' and 'could of' being used; these are incorrect as well.

It's especially annoying to try to teach conditional sentences in French or Spanish when the native English speaker is guilty of double woulda's: "If I woulda known you were going, I woulda gone too".
