This is the conditionnal. Normally, "I" and "we" take "should", "would" being used with the other pronouns. Yet "would" is now used for all the persons, especially in Am.

I should like his name to be Peter is what some people used to say many, many, many years ago in the U.S. (and elsewhere). Nowadays, everyone says I would like his name to be Peter. In the U.S. I should like is only said by people who are putting on airs, that is, trying to appear very cultured, proper, and superior to others.
