Should just call it a day

Can we agree now that if there is ever an apocalypse and we are all dependent on Kevin Costner for survival, our species should just call it a day?

"should just call it a day" - I wonder what that means. Thanks in advance.

" That is, it may not be a full day, but it's the best you can do, so you might as well knock off and get a fresh start tomorrow. It's not a day (like a normal day) but you're going to call it one anyway. The expression is often used figuratively.

"Just call it a day" = "just hang it up."

If you normally work from eight to five, and at 4:30 there's a power failure, you might say, "Let's just call it a day." That is, it may not be a full day, but it's the best you can do, so you might as well knock off and get a fresh start tomorrow. Excellent. Thanks Avangi. I got into a situation where I don't know what my buddy is trying to mean for "Let's just call it a day". I was so confused on what to reply. This saved me. Thanks. This site becomes one of my favourites now
