Should it be was given or had given?

She was so happy when she was given her award last week.

Should it be had given or was given?

If she created the award and has happy to give it to a deserving recipient, then "had given."

Probably you mean the first one.

I would prefer the simple past.
Past perfect is used to emphasizie completion in the past relative to another action.

I concur. Did something change her happiness? If not, then stick with the simple (passive) past.

Or change "was given" to "received" and make it active.
