Should it be "in" or "on"?

FYI- Southern Ergoth is a large island. Lorac sent his people into exile in/on Southern Ergoth under the leadership of Alhana, while he remained behind to attempt to use a dragon orb to stop the invaders.

I did not know that so thanks a lot. So for this sentence example, it should be "in" also?

Important note. The guideline I gave you was for to be in/on (an island). You'll have to see in each case whether the verb is typically used with a different preposition.

The expression is crash onto something or into something. I'd use onto for a ship crashing onto an island. on can substitute for onto if you wish.
