Should it be "during" or "in"?

The forces of Chaos attacked the High Clerist’s Tower, killing every defender at the fortress except for the Solamnic prisoners and a band of Dark Knight dragon-riders led by Steel Brightblade, the son of Sturm and Kitiara. Ariakan was slain during/in the battle at the Tower, leaving the Dark Knights leaderless.
