Should I use "Victim" to describe this situation

Hi everyone! I want to ask the use of "victim"

Simon and Tony are friends. Simon is an important board director of a company. If the media reports that Simon and Tony are homosexual, and the report causes damage to Simon's good reputation. Can I say Simon is the victim?

Also, what are the other vocabularies that I can use in such a senario?

Thank you very much and I appreciate your help!

Simon is a victim if the report is not true. If he is not gay, then Simon is a victim of libel (if the medium is the newspaper) or slander (if the medium is TV).
