Should I use 'the' when something is not specific?

Hello guys!

I have a question for you:

A preposition is a word that shows the relation between nouns, pronouns and other words in a sentence.

I want to know should I use 'the' before the word relation. If yes, then what's the reason?

I look forward to hearing from you guys

‘relation’ might not be the best word to use in that sentence. ‘relationship’ sounds better. Since relation or relationship can be singular or plural and is countable, an article is generally used.
