Should I use the plural or singular form as the subject?

I am trying to decide if I should use the plural or singular form for the subject of my sentence.

Should I say:

"A genetic distance DOES not perfectly predict the phylogenetic placement of a sequence."

OR

"Genetic distances DO not perfectly predict phylogenetic placementS of sequenceS."

Thanks,

Guan
