Should I use single or plural form in this case?

e.g. Which question is correct? or more common?

A. What is the possible reason of the sudden rise of the food price?

B. What are the possible reasons of the sudden rise of the food price?


There could be one or many reasons behind sudden rise of food price and the listener may answer one or more reasons.

Thay are both a little bit off in other ways than the number of "reason", but to answer your question, if you want only one reason, use the singular:

"What is the possible reason for the sudden rise in food prices?"

Otherwise, use the plural:

"What are the possible reasons for the sudden

You expect one reason.

You expect more than one reason.
