Should I use Past perfect?

"I remember my friend called me after the first plane hit and said..."

Is this correct, or I should use "had hit"?
If I shouldn't, it's because the order of the events are very clear?

TheOne1996 Is this correct, or I should use "had hit"? Yes, that's fine. I think past perfect is not a good choice there: it lacks immediacy.

Just one suggestion outside of the book. Even when we are dealing with two past events, it doesn't always mean past perfect is automatic. When conjunctions such as 'before', 'after', 'when', or 'while' etc are used in the context, it is not necessary. In fact, it is better in my opinion not to use past perfect.
