Should I use past or present here?

I can't base my opinion on what you said. I have to listen to him as I listened to you.
I can't base my opinion on what you say. I have to listen to him as I listened to you,

Here is what happened: She told me why she was mad so during the conversation I said the first sentence.

Here is why I said it that way "I can't (now or at the moment) base my opinion on what you said (2 mins ago). Some told me to use couldn't instead of could, but wouldn't that imply that it happened in the past?

And the second one sounds that I always don't base my opinion on what she says.

I want to say that I don't want to base my opinion on what she said on this topic specifically.

Same thing happened here(I want to say that I don't want to base my opinion on what she said). I don't know which one to use "she says or she said?") Should I follow the tense sequence (simple present) or the events sequence (simple past because she already said that)?

What she says was in the very recent past; also, she may say something again that you cannot base your opinion on. All in all, both of these are right enough and the choice is certainly not worth agonizing over: I can't base my opinion on what you said. I have to listen to him as I listened to you.
