Should I use 'or' or 'and'

We could not believe it at first as my brother did not have any symptoms of the cancer. He could eat and/or sleep well on learning that he had cancer.

Should I use 'or' or 'and'?

Thanks.

Thanks, GPY.

Yes, 'couldn't' is the word. Typo.
