Should I use "does" in short answers?

Hello, I've just taken a test in which I tried to provide a "short answer" to one of the exercise questions.

I've considered this example I found in the grammar explanation section of the book:

EXAMPLE - What makes people happy? Love does.

So, according to this example, I answered the question "Who helps you? (teacher)" with "My teacher does".

However, according to the answer key, the correct answer should have been "My teacher" (without "does").

Can anyone explain why? I am not a native speaker.

Thank you very much.

Peter.

Both "My teacher" and "My teacher does" are correct answers to that question. Without further information there is no reason to prefer one over the other. However, if you are specifically supposed to follow the model answer "Love does", then the answer should include "does".

  • Both "My teacher" and "My teacher does" are correct answers to that question.
  • Without further information there is no reason to prefer one over the other.
  • However, if you are specifically supposed to follow the model answer "Love does", then the answer should include "does".
  • From the information you provide, there seems no way to be sure that "My" is expected.
  • "The teacher does", for instance, would be just as correct.
