As an ESL speaker, I have looked for and found much content about letter and e-mail writing (my main concern was how to start and end a letter).
However, I have not found any answer to this question: If a quite formal e-mail turns into correspondance, should I keep using the salutation+last name each time? For example, I started the thread with "Dear Mr. Johnson,"; His reply began with "Dear Dror" and ended with a standard automatic signature "Rudy Johnson". So when I reply now, should I use "Dear Mr. Johnson" again, or may I use "Dear Rudy" or even just "hello" or "hello again"? or use no opening at all?
In this specific case, by the way, he is the director of housing in my college, and I'm a prospective freshman. So on one hand he's the superior adult, but on the other I'm paying them $7,000 a year.
What do you say?
