Should I take PTE or IELTS again? I took my IELTS first attempt on 31 Aug and got 7 overall band, but I got only 5.5 in writing. I'm now planning to shift to PTE which I feel easy compared to IELTS. What is your thoughts upon my decision?

The decision between retaking IELTS or considering PTE depends on your individual goals and preferences. Both tests are widely accepted measures of English proficiency, but they have distinct characteristics.

IELTS is generally more globally recognized, particularly for academic and immigration purposes. A score of 5 on IELTS indicates a limited user of English. If your target institutions or organizations require a higher score, retaking IELTS can be a strategic choice.

PTE is a computer-based test that some find less stressful and more convenient than the traditional IELTS format. PTE scores are reported on a 10-90 scale, which can be easier to understand compared to the 9-band IELTS scale. If you struggle with the IELTS format or prefer a computer-based test, PTE might be a suitable alternative.

When making your decision, consider the following factors:

  • Test format: Do you prefer a traditional face-to-face exam or a computer-based test?
  • Scoring: Which scoring system do you find more understandable or easier to interpret?
  • Test availability: Are your desired test dates and locations available for both IELTS and PTE?
  • Acceptance: Check if your target institutions or organizations accept either or both tests.

Thoroughly research both options to determine the best fit for your specific needs and goals.
