Should I say ‘toward’ or ‘towards’?

Should I say ‘toward’ or ‘towards’? I’m not a native speaker of English, but I’ve been inclined to use American English. Would it be acceptable if I say ‘toward’?

I have to maintain a good and positive outlook (toward, towards) building harmonious relationships with others.

Toward is more common in American English, while towards is more common in British English, but both are acceptable in either dialect. Your sentence sounds a little odd though. I am working toward(s) building harmonious relationships with others.
