Should I say ‘could do almost nothing’ or ‘couldn’t do anything’ in the first sentence?

Should I say ‘could do almost nothing’ or ‘couldn’t do anything’ in the first sentence? Have I correctly used ‘it’ in the second sentence?

Did you ever have such a big problem that you (could do almost nothing, couldn’t do anything) about it? It happened to me once.
