Should I put a period right after Mrs ? Thanks

Dear all,

Could you tell me when I should put a period right after names? The following sentence is written in my textbook. I was wondering why the author didn't put a period right afterMrs Joseph Williamson. Is it necessary to put a period right after the names or is it optional?

Thank you for your answer.

Mr. and Mrs (no period right fter it) Joseph williamson thank Mr. and Mrs. William Au Yeung for their kind invitation to Dinner on Sunday.

Thanks again.

It seems to me that if Mr. has a period, then Mrs. should also have a period.

  • It seems to me that if Mr.
  • has a period, then Mrs.
  • should also have a period.
  • I always use the period.
  • Maybe it's a misprint.

That depends on the variety of English you want to use. As CJ has explained, a period is standard in American English. In modern British English no period is usually used. However, this hasn't always been the case. About 50 years ago it was normally used in British English, too
