Should I omit the colon between 'plan' and 'to' in the second sentence?

Should I omit the colon between 'plan' and 'to' in the second sentence? Should there really be no colon as in the first sentence? Please help me. Thank you.

1. Not even Mr. Davidson's enemies can thwart his plan to run for mayor.
