Should I include the "as a result"?

During the Test, the spirit of Raistlin intervened, much to the surprise of Dalamar, and tempted Palin to follow the path of darkness. Palin refused even though he believed that he would be killed "as a result", but instead was granted the Staff of Magius by his uncle.
