Should I add a comma in between "confident" and "since"?

The highlord was extremely confident since the majority of the Solamnic army had been wiped out two days earlier, and now only a small force defended the fortress.

This comma is optional. the highlord". I like to use it in the case of longer sentences, just for the mental or oral flow.

This comma is optional. Had the sentence begun with "since the majority...", it would be mandatory before "..the highlord". I like to use it in the case of longer sentences, just for the mental or oral flow.
