Should have arrived and was supposed to
Here is my question:
He said that the plane had already left and that I _______________ an hour earlier.
I know that the answer is C. should have arrived (Modal perfect is used here). However, I don’t know why the answer can’t be “D. was supposed to arrive”. Thanks in advance.

In real English, D is possible, too. I suppose the test writer would have liked 'was supposed to have arrived '.
