Should cigarettes be banned from society? Why/ Why not?

There is a growing concern about negative effects of cigarettes on humankind. However, whether it is reasonable to impose a complete ban on tobacco smoking remains an unanswered question. From my perspective, prohibiting cigarettes is an effective method in ridding the society of their detrimental impacts.
With regard to smokers’ health, it is apparent that cigarette smoking lies at the root of a multitude of hazardous diseases such as lung cancer, heart attack, or high blood pressure. What makes smokers’ health even worse is the nicotine, an indispensable ingredient of cigarette, which can lead to serious addiction. Hence, it appears to be really easy for people to get into the habit of smoking and also immensely difficult to break it. Due to this fact, a decisive prohibition on smoking will ensure the best improvement of their health.
Moreover, tobacco products also have undesirable implication on surrounding people. It seems to be unjust for those who suffer from second-hand smoke and then have to encounter the same health problems as real smokers do. Not only health but adults smoking cigarettes may set a bad example for children. For example, it is reported that the number of children smoking in Indonesia is getting out of control due to deplorable smoking habits of adults. During the Covid-19 pandemic, smoking can make a substantial contribution to the infection rate. Therefore, it is necessary that the government enact a ban on tobacco smoking so as to protect the whole community.
Another reason to forbid cigarettes is that they can aggravate some certain social problems. Emissions from cigarette combustion include various poisonous compounds, which in turn promote the level of air pollution. Furthermore, despite some economic gains from cigarette sales, considerable economic loss is typically linked to the repercussions of tobacco smoking such as the costs of health care service and environmental protection as well as a decrease in labor productivity.
In conclusion, cigarettes pose enormous risk to many aspects of lives. As a result, the authorities' announcement of a tobacco smoking ban is appropriate.
