There's two ways to leave tip. One is cash the other is credit card. I say this to the cashier, because I don't know which it prefers:

How should I leave the tip?

Can it be used?

Usually, I say 'Can I put the tip on the bill?' or 'Can I put the tip on my card?'

What if I'm asking him how he wants the tip.

How would you like the tip?

If you are talking directly to the server, then you needn't ask: give him CASH!

Hi,

If I pay the bill in cash, I tip in cash.

If I pay the bill by credit card, I add the tip to the amount I charge on my card. ie the whole amount goes on my card.

In my experience, people don't ask the waiter which method he prefers.

I always give the waiter his tip in cash.

If it goes on the card dishonest owners will keep it for themselves rather than pass it on to the staff.
