From Gilmore Girls, 215.
The underlined "Should he?", does this expression suggest that "there is actually a reason that Dean will read something into this"? For example, Dean has a reason to believe that Rory is pulling away from him, because Rory lost the bracelet that Dean gave her. Or, actually Rory is pulling away from him in the deep heart of hers, no matter what, i.e. even if she hadn't lost the bracelet. Is my understanding correct?
- You didn't lose it on purpose.
- I know, but things have been a little weird between us lately... and you couldn't care less.
- Yes, I could.
